How to Identify Gold
Not sure if what you have is solid gold?
The easiest way is to read the karat markings on each piece. Any one of the following
markings indicates that your jewelry is solid gold:
For 9 karat–9K, 9kt, .375
For 10 karat–10K, 10kt, 417
For 14 karat–14K, 14kt, 583
For 18 karat–18K, 18kt, 750
For 24 karat–24K, 24kt, .9999
Yellow and white are the most common colors for
gold, but gold can also be green and rose-colored.
Platinum
Any one of the following markings indicates that your jewelry is platinum.
950Pt, 950Plat, 900Pt, 900Plat, 850Pt, 850Plat, 585Plat,
IRIDPLAT, Platinum, Pt
Note: Other similar markings may also be platinum. Items marked “Plated” are NOT
